Disc Golf in Pelham NH
Let's take a ride up to Pelham and try the Disc Golf course at Muldoon Park. We can meet at the The Hillside Country Store, which is across the street from Muldoon Park. The country store provides the discs free of charge. We can proceed up to muldoon park and play either 9 or 18 holes, then grab some lunch at the deli upon returning the discs. For those who do not know what Disc golf is: Disc golf is a lot like traditional "ball" golf, except players use specially made plastic flying discs instead of balls and clubs, and throw them for 'par' at an above-ground target instead of a hole in the ground. There are different types of discs used for different purposes, much like ball golfers use different clubs. The object of the game is to throw a golf disc into the target, typically a "Pole Hole" basket (a steel basket over which chains hang), in the fewest number of throws. The player begins by 'driving' from a designated tee area and continues toward the target, throwing each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw has landed. Finally, a successful 'putt' sends the disc into the target. The most satisfying sound a disc golfer can hear is the 'ching!' of a disc crashing the chains before dropping into the basket. So come on out on this fall day and join us in a game of disc golf.

A little history about Spencer Perice Little Farm: 1635-1651: Spencer Ownership: First Settlement John Spencer was granted a 400-acre parcel, the lions share of which now makes up the Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, in 1635 as part of the first allocation of land to new settlers. He was an investor in the cattle venture that drove settlement in Newbury, and was a man of means. The town also granted him a house lot of four acres near the landing site in the Parker River. John Spencer played a prominent role in the early years of the fledgling settlement, representing the town to the General Court in Boston, acting as a captain in the militia, and involving himself in a mill-building venture with friend and fellow wealthy settler Richard Dummer. In 1637, however, both Spencer and Dummer were disarmed for being supporters of Anne Hutchinson and part of a heretical sect. He left Newbury, likely intending to return, and left his property to his nephew. John Spencer died in England in 1648, and his nephew sold the property, now smaller by 100 acres, to Daniel Peirce. For more information about the Farm go to: http://www.historicne... . We look forward to seeing you at this event! Donna & Janet

Wolf Hollow in Ipswich.
Lets go check out the wolves at Wolf Hollow. Wolf Hollow was founded in 1988 by the late Paul C. Soffron, with the mission of preservation of the wolf in the wild through education and exposure. Visitors are welcome at Wolf Hollow, where they meet the resident wolves and learn the importance of the wolf in the wild as top predator. By observing how a wolf pack functions, visitors learn how wolves are a benefit to the environment around them and ultimately to us as humans because of the many parallels to our own families. Wolves are still very much a threatened species and visitors will learn what can be done to help alleviate the threat. Wolf Hollow is fully licensed by the State of Massachusetts and the federal government as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. We support our work solely through our admission, gift shop sales, adopt-a-wolf program and donations. Their pack of British Colombian timber wolves started with five pups donated by other facilities in the United States. The original five were from three different litters so that a family could be started at the facility. Visitors have the opportunity to view the wolf hollow pack while a one hour educational lecture is presented. The recommended age for this program is five years and up. While learning about how the wolf lives in a family group, its role in nature, its history with man, and the fight to preserve their species in the wild, visitors observe the wolves interacting with their pack-mates at close range. The official site of Wolf Hollow: Wolf Hollow is a non-profit organization established in 1990 to teach people about the importance of the wolf in the wild. Wolf Hollow offers a unique opportunity to view gray wolves in as natural a setting as possible. Come see how they interact with their pack members and live in a social unit very similar to human families. Weather permitting if it is raining then they are closed. Please remember to check back to this site to see if there are any updates. Time: Ticket sales start at 1:00, formal presentation will start at 1:30. Cost: Admission $7.50 Adults, $5.00 Seniors, $5.00 Children (Ages 5-17) Directions: Wolf Hollow is located approximately 3 miles outside downtown Ipswich on route 133 heading east. From the Boston area take route 128 north to exit 20A (route 1A) heading north. Turn right onto route 133 east about 8 miles from 128. We are about a mile and a half down 133 on the left. Children are welcome at this event, but note that it is an hour long presentation and the recommended age is five years and up. If you are running late or get lost call the Meetup phone at [masked], please note this phone does not accept text messages. We look forward to seeing you! Donna & Janet
